As mid century modern furniture design was a truly global design movement it comes as no surprise that many creators from the other side of the atlantic also contributed to the exquisite style that was developed in the mid 20 th century. Another renowned midcentury modern furniture designer with roots in architecture is arne jacobsen 1902 1971. His focus was to take classic furniture designs and simplify them with a slight modern twist.

Furniture designers filmmakers artists textile and graphic designers and even toy and puzzle makers the eameses believed that design should be an agent of positive change. But what we now call mid century modern design is a blend of decades worth of design. In america herman miller became synonymous with modern furniture and worked with the likes of george nelson and charles and ray eames. This danish visionary drew inspiration from the modernist designs of charles and ray eames and collaborated with other designers to create furnishings for a number of the buildings he designed.

Aside from his contributions to modern workspace design george nelson was known for his trademark bubble lamp marshmallow sofa and signature benches.
